Who loves movies?

Meghan loves movies!

And, to get you all in on the movie-loving fantasticness…

I want everyone who reads this blog and especially those who’ve never commented before to post a favorite movie quote as a way of introducing yourself. I want to know who you are and I want you to sum it up in a well-chosen sentence or two.

Won’t you please? justeastofwest‘s readers are playing along….

“It’s forty-two pounds of polished granite, bevelled on the belly and a handle a human being can hold. And it may have no practical purpose in itself but it is a repository of human possibility and if it’s handled just right, it will exact the kind of poetry… For ten years, I’ve drilled for oil in 93 countries, five different continents, and not once have I done anything to equal the grace of a well thrown rock sliding down a sheet. Not once.”

This is going well… I did forget to introduce myself, however.

“By rights we shouldn’t even be here. But we are. It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end, because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad has happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines, it’ll shine out the clearer. “

My movie quote:
“My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, Commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.”

I’ve tried for the last few hours to come up with a good quote, and I seriously can’t. Quotes don’t impact me so much as moments do. And the moment I keep thinking of doesn’t have any lines, so…

It’s from Children of Men (a sci-fi of sorts). Near the end, during a huge battle between the army and the freedom fighters, Theo is carrying a baby – the first baby to be born in 18 years. And as he walks through, the fighting slowly comes to a stop. All anyone can do is stare at the baby, forgetting all the current political issues and remembering what’s actually important in the world.

Words can’t do it justice, but that scene speaks a lot to me, and to who I am. Just wish it was an actual quote…

I know the scene you are talking about, and it’s an amazing bit of peace in a movie that is chaotically crazy most of the time.

Also- I love the long, long, long, single take shot they did close to the end…
