A Brief History

Born in Redmond, WA to Marcus and Sallie Smith I spent the early years of my life in Kent, WA where my house has sparkly ceilings and I attended Eastridge Baptist church. I enjoyed the “bird bath” in our backyard (it was actually a mud-puddle that never went away) and eating carrots right out of the garden. My earliest memory from that house is climbing out of my crib. I remember seeing the rectangle of light from the hall and wanting to play in it. My big sister and I enjoyed dressing up and brushing our teeth while sitting in the sink.

Slightly later in life my family moved to Maple Valley, WA where our house was the only one in a neighborhood of empty lots. We had tree houses and used to play in the construction areas. Somehow, in our minds, the workers would appreciate it if we swept up all the sawdust. Anywhoot… my formative years were spent homeschooling and taking dance classes at British Dance Academy in Kent.

When I was eight we moved to Issaquah, WA. I attended, in chronological order, public school, public school + homeschool, public school, Chrysalis (an independent study program), Chrysalis + public school, public school. I graduated in the 99th percentile of my high school class. (Turns out I was actually 13th in my class…) Ballet and Modern lessons ended after 13 years and I got into theatre. I’ve choreographed, acted and costumed ever since, most recently at a local professional theatre.

Not being in the mood to live with 260 other girls, nor desirous of spending lots of money on an education that would not help with what I wanted to do, I opted for community college. I finished my 2 year degree in a year and a half and then spent six months working three jobs.

I came back from my four months in NZ a completely changed person. Well, I still love movies, I’m still tall and I still want to get a PHD someday, but other than that I don’t recognize myself.

I’m waiting for a phone call that could decide my next few years.
